Record Number of Apple Users Receive Spyware Alerts, Investigators Report

An unprecedented number of Apple users have reported receiving spyware alerts over the weekend, according to digital rights groups and experts who investigate these types of incidents. The technology giant sent out a new wave of notifications on Friday alerting customers in 110 countries that they had been targeted with powerful spyware. Mohammed Al-Maskati, director of the Access Now team of investigators, reported a record high number of people reaching out for help since Friday, including those who had already received threat notifications in the past. The latest batch appears to have been the largest yet. One of the affected individuals is a Ukraine Armed Forces soldier who said he is fighting against Russia and was initially skeptical about the alert until verifying it with Apple.
