A tech news outlet, 404 Media, has reported that an Airtag hidden in a rare book was traced to an Amazon AI training facility in Las Vegas. The facility, VGT3, is accused of systematically destroying books after scanning them for AI training. Amazon declined to comment on the findings but stated that it purchases books through commercial channels to improve its products and services. Booksellers are concerned about the destruction of rare works, with some considering it 'evil incarnate'.
